Who collects Armin Hansen?
Hansen is prized above all as a painter of men at work on the sea. His years crewing on North Sea trawlers before 1912, and his long life among the fishing fleet at Monterey, gave his boats, nets and weather-beaten crews an authority few marine painters match. Collectors of California Impressionism look for his Monterey harbor and wharf scenes; collectors of American marine painting look for his storm-tossed boats and the bold, broad brushwork he brought back from Europe.
He also painted landscapes and ranch scenes and was an accomplished etcher. Because his output varies so widely in subject, size and medium, the right way to sell depends on the specific work. Our past sales page and the biography give more background.
